Most notably the birth place of King Alfred the Great in 849, Wantage is an attractive market town located 8 miles South West of Abingdon and 10 miles South East of Faringdon, at the foot of the Berkshire Downs escarpment in the Vale of the White Horse. Centred around the market square with its twice weekly market, Wantage offers a good selection of shops and amenities including plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as being the perfect centre from which to explore the beautiful countryside of the Berkshire Downs.
