These homes have been constructed by local Eco build company, Greencore Construction, headed by Ian Pritchett who has spent decades honing his skills and striving to create the ultimate low energy home that at the same time leaves the smallest possible carbon footprint in the course of construction.
In the wake of the 2015 Paris Climate Conference Ian teamed up with partners to develop the BIOND construction system. Now perfected the BIOND system essentially hinges around the off-site fabrication of sealed panels insulated with hemp and lime that have such extraordinary thermal qualities that in tests carried out by Bath University they were shown to hold in 3.6 times more heat than a similar panel insulated with mineral wool.
The system goes on to include extraordinary air tightness (between 20 and 57 times more than required by regulation) and then with triple glazing, under floor heating and mechanical ventilation and heat recovery (MVHR) the resulting home typically has energy bills of between £150 and £300pa depending on size.
All of this while leaving the lightest imaginable carbon footprint through the construction phase.
In addition to the exceptionally low energy bills and fabulous green credentials these are very fine and comfortable homes in their own right.
